Hosting a ComSci Fellow
The ComSci Program is designed to provide mid-level, GS-13, GS-14, and GS-15 (or equivalent) and SES federal managers and professionals with a policy and leadership development opportunity that leads to a better understanding of the complex economic, technical, political, and international factors that affect the development of science and technology policy and the development, management, and application of technology itself.
Fellows go through a rigorous selection process that is based, in part, on their record of accomplishment and achievement in their federal career and in their field. Fellows are highly-accomplished individuals from a wide variety of federal agencies and who have a wide variety of management and technical backgrounds and experience. Most have advanced degrees, and many have security clearances.
The Fellows who opt for the full-time program are placed in a full-time, 10-month developmental assignment at a host agency or office — with no cost to the host organization. ComSci Fellows are available for assignment from mid-September until the end of June and have provided their expertise throughout the federal government. To coincide with the legislative calendar, schedule adjustments can be made for Capitol Hill work assignments, having them begin in January and end in October.
Agencies or offices who wish to host a ComSci Fellow must identify a suitable project or work assignment and should submit a "Host Agency Request Form" (please download the MS Word file, fill-in, save and then e-mail completed form back to comsci@nist.gov). The potential assignments will be reviewed and matched with qualified Fellows. Each agency or office will have the opportunity to review resumes/CVs and interview candidates for the work assignment.
The host agency must provide workspace with access to office equipment, telephone, e-mail, etc. While on assignment, ComSci Fellows must attend scheduled ComSci activities, including regular seminars and two one-week activities. Additional information will be provided to agencies wanting to host a ComSci Fellow.
The ComSci Program is interested in and will consider assignment requests that may involve small groups of Fellows for shorter assignments or for projects on which ComSci Fellows may act in a "consulting" capacity.
